Piezomagnetic switching and complex phase equilibria in uranium dioxide

چکیده
Abstract Actinide materials exhibit strong spin–lattice coupling and electronic correlations, are predicted to host new emerging ground states. One example is piezomagnetism magneto-elastic memory effect in the antiferromagnetic Mott-Hubbard insulator uranium dioxide, though its microscopic nature under debate. Here, we report X-ray diffraction studies of oriented dioxide crystals pulsed magnetic fields. In state a [888] Bragg peak follows bulk magnetostriction that expands Upon reversal field expansion turns contraction, before switching piezomagnetic ‘butterfly’ behaviour, characteristic two structures connected by time symmetry. An unexpected splitting observed, indicating simultaneous presence time-reversed domains 3-k structure complex magnetic-field-induced evolution microstructure. These findings open door for understanding across interactions.

Investigation of resistive switching in anodized titanium dioxide thin films
In this work, TiO2 nanostructures were grown on titanium thin films by electrochemical anodizing method. The bipolar resistive switching effect has been observed in Pt/TiO2/Ti device. Resistive switching characteristics indicated the TiO2 nanotubes are one of the potential materials for nonvolatile memory applications. Increasing anodizing duration will increase nanotube lengths which itself c...

Uranium dioxide (UO2) is the major nuclear fuel component of fission power reactors. A key concern during severe accidents is the melting and leakage of radioactive UO2 as it corrodes through its zirconium cladding and steel containment. Yet, the very high temperatures (>3140 kelvin) and chemical reactivity of molten UO2 have prevented structural studies. In this work, we combine laser heating,...
متن کاملCalculation of phase transitions of uranium dioxide using structure factor in molecular dynamics
We calculate phase transitions of uranium dioxide using structure factor in molecular dynamics. Our method is based on analysis of the rate of the structure factor change with the temperature. The temperatures of melting and transition to the superionic state for the uranium dioxide obtained by this method are 3100K and 2600K, respectively. Theses temperatures much better conform to the experim...

Chemical catalysis plays an important role in the modern chemical industry. The high demand for the products of industrial catalysis increases the need for development of solvent media that are both economical and environmentally friendly. Previous research efforts have focused on primarily supercritical CO2 (scCO2) and mixtures of scCO2 with other solvents such as acetonitrile, toluene, ethano...

The highly reactive, six-coordinate tris-aryloxide U(III) species, [((t-BuArO)3tacn)U] (1) reacts with CO2 in a 2e- reduction to produce CO and a dinuclear U(IV/IV) mu-oxygen bridged complex [{((t-BuArO)3tacn)U}2(mu-O)] (2). This reaction proceeds via a dinuclear CO2-bridged intermediate 3. Also, mononuclear 1 was treated with 1 atm of CO to yield dinuclear [{((t-BuArO)3tacn)U}2(mu-CO)] (4) wit...
